Their firing rate is simply too low, and they don't do the same damage crossbowmen do. I haven't been playing it THAT much. I've also noticed that longbowmen aren't that great, just like in Floris. I do know the Reach seem to have the best crossbowmen, and throwing weapons are entirely absent except in Essos (that's over the sea). The Reach also has good knights, but the Vale knights are about the same.
